Who is important to you? Who has made you smile, cheered you on, or been a sounding board? Who has been a trusted friend, one who somehow knows just the right time to give you a hug or a kick in the rear? Who has shared life with you? Who has been a great influence and made an impact?
I was scrolling through FaceBook and noticed a friend’s post. It was an obituary of a young woman. She was 32. I could tell it was someone special…someone my friend thought highly of and would miss dearly. And I couldn’t help but think how tragic and sad it was for this woman to be gone…she was so young…so much life ahead of her…and then there was her husband and three young children she left behind…
After a few more days passed there was another post. This one was sharing an idea and request directly from this young woman’s husband. Here is what he wrote:
It is obvious from the multitude of friends and family that my/our beloved Amy had an impact that was truly worldwide. The stories that you have shared in Facebook posts, texts, and voicemails have been deeply moving and inspiring to so many. Her wit and wisdom; her kindness and sensitivity; her sense of justice and her sense of humor; and her abiding faith truly touched us all.
Thanks to a great idea from a few dear friends, I would like to invite you to help me catalog our stories of the life lessons Amy taught us, and the endearing memories she bestowed, so that as our children, Christian, Annie, and Conner grow up, they can know much of the legacy their mamma imparted and be the recipients of her faith and wisdom.
How beautiful is that!? It is such a great idea! I can only imagine how these memories and stories will be treasures to her children as they grow.
But there was something else that got me thinking. Clearly, this woman had an impact! She inspired and shaped the people around her. And I know many of you would be able to describe someone like this in your life right now. Wouldn’t it be great if we took the time TODAY to reach out to the people who have moved and inspired us and tell them the stories of how they have impacted our lives?
So many times words are left unsaid. We get wrapped up in our day to day life. We think we will always have time later. Life is too short and there is no better time than the present. Take a moment today to send a text, write a note or give someone a call. Share with them the story of how they’ve impacted you!
Not only will you fill their soul, but it will nourish yours too!
