We all have things we are unsure about. We all deal with uncertainty. Doubt has a way of creeping into our lives through various situations. Doubt doesn’t show any favoritism…it can sneak into the most God-honoring, faith-filled person.
If you are dealing with doubt…if you’re unsure of something…acknowledge it. Don’t hide it…when we try to hide our doubt it hurts our soul. Tell God about it. You’re in good company…John the Baptist had doubts, Thomas had doubts, the Israelites had doubts, David had doubts, the list goes on and on…we’ve all been there. Remember the words of the father who brought his son who had an evil spirit to Jesus…he cried out…”Jesus, I believe…help my unbelief!”
It’s ok!
There is no shame or guilt when doubt comes. There’s nothing wrong with you if you are feeling this way. It’s an opportunity to look and see what we are really clinging to.
So if you are dealing with doubt here is a time tested strategy to keep doubt in check and discouragement at bay. Make a list of things you know God has done. Pull out your journal, a notebook, or computer…make a voice memo on your phone…whatever is easiest for you! Make a list of the things you know God has done. This can come through what you have read in the scriptures and your personal experience. List the prayers He has answered, the healing you’ve witnessed, the new life you’ve seen spring out of nowhere…all of it. Record it all. If there are particular scripture verses that have jumped off the page and into your heart, make note of those too.
Keep them close. Have them handy. And when doubt starts to tap you on the shoulder, and it will at some point in time for all of us, get out the list, listen to the recording on your phone. Remember those things. Declare the promises. Every time you feel doubt creeping it…do it over and over again. Go back to what you know. Make the choice to not dwell in vagueness and uncertainty. Go back to what you know. And when you do, you’ll find that discouragement has no place in your heart and mind.
