Are you always on the go? Do you find it hard to stop? Many of us find ourselves living the 24/7 life. I don’t mean we live life to the fullest every minute of the day, in fact the 24/7 life is quite the opposite. The 24/7 life is demanding and draining. We never come up for air. Rest is seen as a luxury we can not afford, perhaps even a waste of time. We are always on, always doing, always producing, always striving for more…and we are paying a high price. Stress, anxiety, and depression are at an all time high for both adults and children.
This is not what God intended for you.
You were designed to stop.
God created you to live a rhythm of work and rest, in fact, it was woven into the very fabric of creation.
Have you ever seen a piece of farm land that has been cultivated and worked for years and years? Slowly the crops become fewer and of less quality. If the land isn’t given a rest, eventually it ceases to grow anything and becomes a wasteland. The same is true for our lives. We need to stop. We need to rest. If we continue to go and do without integrating sabbath, eventually the quality of our work and relationships will suffer. The very things we desperately try to achieve and do by refusing to quit will become like dust until there is nothing left we can give. Our lives will become barren.
In today’s episode of the Giving Up Normal podcast, I sit down with Esther Goetz and talk about giving up the 24/7 life. If you are a workaholic, if you are constantly on the move, if you are afraid to create any kind of space or margin because you think you might miss out on an opportunity or if you simply are tired and long to stop and rest for awhile…this episode is for you.
