I’m an expert at struggling to let go of things in order to live the radically different life I am called to live. Perhaps it’s because I still find it hard to believe that it’s me who God loves, values and wants…not what I do for HIm. Or maybe I’m worried that it’s going to keep me from some big opportunity…after all, I don’t want to miss out. Why limit yourself when you could do more…be more? I imagine it’s a mixture of all three, along with other things that lie deep beneath the surface.
I wonder if you are finding it hard to let go too? Chances are you have dedicated your time and energy to doing things that are valuable, but even good things can crowd our lives. Cramming in one thing after another keeps us from having the space we desperately crave and the margin we drastically need.
God has been teaching me that gaining more actually means reaching for less.
Last summer I decided to let go of some good things I was pursuing. After suspending my coaching practice at the beginning of the year, I chose not to get recertified. It was a hard decision. I had been a part of this coaching team for the last 5 years and many people knew me and loved me through some of the most significant transitions I faced. Giving up my credentials impacted other responsibilities too. It made no sense to some. Why give it all up?
It was radically different and exactly what I needed to do.
Reaching for less is hard. Honestly, it takes more discipline than doing more. It’s easy to keep saying yes, but it takes grit and determination to change your habits and make the decision to let some good things go. Don’t let that deter you. Reaching for less is not only possible…it is totally worth it! You’re worth it!
How crowded is your life? Do you need to be reaching for less? What’s one thing God may be asking you to set aside so that you can live radically different?
I’d love to hear from you. Email me or comment below to share what your sensing so that I can pray for you as you begin reaching for less!
