But What If No One Buys? How to Overcome Fear and Take the Leap
Have you ever had a great idea for an online program, a workshop, or a new offer in your business—only to stop before you even start because of a little voice whispering, What if no one buys? If that thought has ever crossed your mind, you’re not alone.
That fear can be paralyzing. But here’s the truth: it’s not really about whether or not people buy. It’s about something deeper—the fear of failure. And if we don’t address it, it can keep us from ever moving forward.
Naming the Fear
When we say, What if no one buys? what we’re really asking is, What if I fail? What if I put this out into the world and it doesn’t work? What if people see me try and then see me struggle? What if they think I don’t know what I’m doing?
It’s completely normal to feel this way. Every entrepreneur, no matter how experienced, wrestles with this fear. Even those who appear wildly successful have faced moments of doubt. But here’s something powerful: when we name the fear, we take away its power. It’s no longer lurking in the dark—it’s exposed, and that makes it easier to move forward.
Fear Is a Sign That You Care
The fear of failure isn’t proof that you aren’t ready—it’s proof that you care. You care about creating something valuable. You care about serving your audience at the highest level. You care about getting results, for both your business and the people you help. That’s a good thing.
Of course, you might also care about what others think of you. But the truth is, people are far more focused on themselves than on judging your every move. Just like you’re thinking about your own challenges, your audience is thinking about theirs. We are always own worst critic.
So if fear is going to be present either way, why not choose the kind of discomfort that leads to growth?
Failure Is Learning
Most of us don’t wake up thinking, I hope I fail today. But if you look back at your biggest lessons in business and life, chances are they came from moments that didn’t go as planned.
That’s because failure is data. Every launch, every offer, every experiment gives you valuable insight into what works and what needs refining. The only real failure is never starting.
Your first version will never be your final version. That’s normal. Think about your business five or ten years ago—has anything changed? Of course! You’ve adjusted, improved, and evolved over time. The same will happen with your online program. It’s a process of growth, not a one-and-done event.
Action Is the Antidote to Fear
You’ve probably heard the phrase, "Do it scared." There’s a reason that’s such powerful advice. Fear thrives on inaction. The longer you wait, the louder the doubt becomes. But when you take action—whether it’s mapping out your program, recording a test lesson, or announcing your idea—fear starts to lose its grip.
The worst-case scenario we imagine in our minds is rarely as bad as we think. More often than not, something goes better than expected. And even if things don’t go exactly as planned, you gain clarity, experience, and confidence for the next step.
Growth Requires Discomfort
Stepping into something new will always feel uncomfortable. That’s just part of the journey. But staying stuck is uncomfortable too. So if discomfort is inevitable, why not choose the kind that leads to progress?
Think of an oyster forming a pearl. It starts with an irritant—something uncomfortable. Over time, that discomfort turns into something valuable. The same is true in business. The discomfort you feel now can be transformed into something incredible if you’re willing to push through it.
You’ve Done Hard Things Before—And You Can Do This Too
Fear will tell you to stay safe, to avoid risk, to wait until you feel 100% ready. And if you listen to that voice, you'll never do this. But you already know how to do hard things that are risky. If you look back on your journey, you’ll see that you’ve overcome challenges before. You’ve figured things out. You’ve taken leaps that once felt impossible. And you can do it again.
The real risk isn’t launching and hearing crickets—it’s never launching at all. It’s staying stuck, maxing out your time, and missing the opportunity to scale your business in a way that works for you.
So instead of focusing on the negative "what ifs" that lead to fear, ask yourself this instead:
- What if people do buy?
- What if this is exactly what they’ve been waiting for?
- What if this is the key to finally growing your business while creating more space for what matters most?
You have something valuable to offer. Your people need it. And you are more capable than you think.
